Reading? Or, is it recommended digesting? Either way – visit The Atlantic’s In Focus section for a superb display of globally relevant photos.
The site features pictures of wartime and peace, celebration and heart-choking violence. Its rather unbiased representation of new stories in which it allows the photos to speak for themselves is moving on its own. But add the discrete narrative that the Atlantic adds to each series of photographs and you have an absolute must-read in my mind.
A few of my favorites:
- Valentine’s Day celebrations around the world (including the cutest picture – above)
- Carnival in Brazil (the beauty of the people, the costumes, the joy!)
- Afghanistan – January 2013 (this and other series’ on wartime and post-wartime regions is…moving)
- Chicago’s Freezing Fire (chilling, literally, scenes from my hometown)
Please note that the content is, at times, very graphic. Also note: so is the real world
Read through the past few posts, allow them to serve as a reminder for what each of has to celebrate – our families, out passions and, here in the US our freedom.
