Meet my new apartment!

Leo’s opening the door for the first time! That was one week ago, we had just driven forever and ever but we made it. Totally par for the crazy-person course, we had no idea what it looked like! This was the second place we looked at. The first was a cute two bedroom house with a huge yard. Sounds dreamy, right? Only down side was that nothing was walk able, not even any little restaurants! Upside was a gorgeous park! But it didn’t feel right, we wanted something a bit more walk able. So, we ended up in an apartment in an old Victorian mansion in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Denver. More on the neighborhood this week as we explore!

Can’t you see the goofy grin on my face? Exposed brick, mantle and fireplace? Yep, I’m cheering.

Photo_2

Matching wood blinds on all the windows? Not the usual white nasty ones in rentals? Awesome.

Photo_3

We put a big white trunk in the bay window for storage and so we can have more seating in the kitchen. I never sit on chairs in the kitchen so it’ll be nice have the bench!

Photo_4

That’s home!

Photo_5

And, last but not least, the smallest but nicest kitchen I’ve ever had! Granite countertops! A real sink! A deep sink! Dishwasher! Its an efficient space, the landlord is French and designed it in a European style. European = super nice but super small. I dig it. As far as the decor? Currently its all boxes…we will get there next week!

Moving Day 2: KC to Co.

So many cows in Kansas! The rolling hills in central Kansas were beautiful. Did you know the one Kansas farmer feeds like 139 people? Have you thanked a farmer recently??

More wind farms, more of me in awe.

Photo_2

Finally, we made it to Colorado!!! I was worried for the first few hours into the state as I couldn’t see the mountains. For about an hour I thought that some clouds were the mountains. You fooled me mother nature…

Photo_3

Here we are driving into the mountains. This is when it all started feeling real – we are moving to Colorado! Crazy.

Photo_4

Crazier yet? Sexy sun tans. Leo’s got two different color arms.

Photo_5

I’m multicolored. With a stripe. That’s what happens when you drive across the country with your window down and arm out the window. Good thing people in Denver don’t judge. Tomorrow’s post – the apartment! See you then loves!

And we’re off!

Movers came early yesterday morning and packed up the apartment. Lesson: read contracts before signing them. We had to get a UHaul because the weight estimate on our stuff was about 1500 lbs off. Whoopsies.

Photo_1

Took a few spins around the old neighborhood! I’ll miss the ballpark, but I won’t miss the hecticness of my least favorite teams’ crazy day drunk fans. I maybe I will?

Photo_2

And then, we headed out of Chicago. We spent the night at Leo’s moms house to get a full dinner (Lou Malnati’s!! Going to miss that!) and see Leo’s parents.

Photo_3

After a full dinner with Leo’s mom, stepdad and best friend, we crashed in bed and slept like babies! Moving is tough! Today, we are off to Kansas City to see Leo’s dad and then onto the Rockies. Woohoo!

Manic(ure) Monday: Pink Flamenco and Girl Power

On Saturday, I had a big night planned so I wanted something fun on my fingers.

Pink Flamenco from OPIs Espana collection is a great pink with no shimmer. Perfect for some glitter accents! Because I was feeling especially girly and obnoxious, I wanted to something with personality! Miss Piggy and Nicki Minaj? Oh yea. First coat of glitter was from OPI The Muppet (color: Rainbow Connection). Second coat was OPI Nicki Minaj (color: Save Me).

Results? Obnoxious hot pink nails with multi-dimensional glitter. Just like my Saturday Night!

Also, I pinned this photo from the Pinterest iPhone app just to see how it worked and all of my Pinterest dreams came true – I had tons of repins and Loves. HOLY SHIT, I’m that girl. I kid, but seriously I was embarassingly happy about it. Don’t judge.

Off to SXSW for the week – next week’s Manic(ure) Monday will happen on Wednesday or whenever I recover.

Book Club: MWF Seeking BFF

Mwfseekingbffcover

{pic from the author’s website, go buy the book so she won’t get mad at me for stealing images!}

Book Club Score: we didn’t give scores this month as the author was in the house, but we all went around and talked about sections of the book that every one connected with.
My Score: N/A – see below.

Book club this month had a special twist – the author of our selection joined us! Rachel Bertsche was an absolute doll, a ball of friendly and funny energy, and she clicked immediately with our book club. We were thrilled to have her and our conversation about the book was all the more interesting because she shared what other books clubs thought as well. Having her there was like a crowd-sourced answer session with girls all over Chicago.

I should note that I didn’t read the book yet as I was nervous it would make some big life changes more scary. More on that to come, but I’m thrilled to pick the book up after every single girl in my book club said, “You have to read this book. It’ll make any situation with girls and new friends easier.”

As a twenty-something author, all of us were in awe of her humility despite having written a book! Especially in the digital age, that a freaking BFD. Big Effing Deal. I think we were all surprised that we’d each experienced things similar to what was in the book and struggled with the same challenges – finding our post-college tribe of friends.

Go buy the book – MWF Seeking Bff – read for your book club and laugh with girl friends, new and old. Then say hi to the author on her blog, Twitter or in person at book events all over Chicago and other cities.

Have you read the book? Did you struggle with finding girl friends and navigate a similar landscape as Rachel does in her book? Leave a comment, I’m fascinated to hear other girls’ perspectives!

The One More Hour Project

So – I’ve been thinking a ton about what I would do with one more hour in every day. There’s a long list of what I wish I would do if I had another hour in the day –

  •
    • work out
    • laundry
    • cook
    • sew
    • yoga

That being said, those aren’t the things that really reenergize and inspire me. Here’s the real list of things that I cherish and want to do more of if I had One More Hour in every day –

  •
    • nap
    • brew coffee and enjoy time with loved ones
    • write
    • read
    • paint my nails
    • flip through glossies (my pile is getting out of control)
    • bake
    • walk around outside
    • shop but not buy
    • play rugby

Thus a project is born: The One More Hour Project. Turn off Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest (unless its for One More Hour Inspiration), the TV, etc. Unless of course those things are on your One More Hour list (no harm or foul, just saying what distracts me sometimes!). Start small – 15 minutes per day doing one thing you wish you did more. Talk about it! Have friends keep you accountable. Write it down! My dear friend, Jeana, who blogs at Happiness and Bucket Lists, dedicates time and energy to similar challenges and I find it totally inspiring – take a look at her post, The Happiness Manifesto for more inspiration!

My One More Hour Project lies in the fact that I want to be more fulfilled by making fulfilling choices. I choose, literally, to live One More Hour. Let’s do this y’all. I’ll let you know how tomorrow goes as I just wrote for 15 minutes!! 😉

What would you do if you had one more hour?
